This story is of Mrs Usha Devi who is a resident of Nanaur under Andhrathari block. Before the intervention of the NGO she and her family members were unaware of the dire consequences which occur due to defecating in the open. In the various meetings organized with the community, they were made aware of the advantages of constructing a toilet in their house which included their health issues, diseases nevertheless their dignity and safety which they risk and put at stake everytime they out in the open. Alongwith this, they were also informed that how the government is aiding in the cause by providing them with money under the Swaccha Bharat Abhiyaan to construct their individual toilet. Their family income was Rs. 65000 per annum. Once they made up their mind even monetary issue couldn’t prove to be a hindrance. They took a loan from amongst their relatives as they didn’t have the required amount immediately but didn’t want to delay the job any further as they had understood the issue thoroughly. In the present time, the family is more than happy with their improved hygiene condition and is living a dignified and healthy life.
